Towering over the James Watt Dock in Greenock, the Titan Cantilever Crane is a striking relic of Scotland’s industrial might. Built in 1917 by the renowned engineering firm Sir William Arrol & Co., this 150-ton capacity steel giant was designed to lift massive ship components during the heyday of Clyde shipbuilding.

Its distinctive hammerhead design—a lattice girder tower with a rotating cantilever jib—made it a marvel of early 20th-century engineering. It was one of **only 40 such cranes** constructed by Arrol & Co., and today, it stands as one of just four surviving Titans on the River Clyde.

Though no longer operational, the crane is a Category A listed structure, recognized for its historical and architectural significance. It looms silently now, a sentinel of Greenock’s maritime legacy, nestled between modern developments and the marina’s boatyard.
